Present Tense (Présent): Used to describe actions that are currently happening or habitual actions. Example: Je mange (I eat/I am eating). Past Tenses: Passé Composé: Formed with the auxiliary verb "avoir" or "être" followed by the past participle. Example: J'ai mangé (I ate). Imparfait: Used to describe ongoing or repeated actions in the past. Example: Je mangeais (I was eating). Future Tenses: Futur Proche: Formed with the present tense of the verb "aller" followed by the infinitive. Example: Je vais manger (I am going to eat). Futur Simple: Formed with the infinitive followed by the future tense endings. Example: Je mangerai (I will eat). Conditional Tense (Conditionnel): Used to express hypothetical situations or polite requests. Example: Je mangerais (I would eat). Subjunctive Mood (Subjonctif): Used to express subjectivity, doubt, or emotion. Example: Il faut que je mange (I must eat). Imperative Mood (Impératif): Used to give commands or instructions. Example: Mange ! (Eat!) Passé Simple (Simple Past): Primarily used in literature or formal writing to describe completed actions in the past. Example: Je mangeai (I ate). These are the basic tenses in French. Each tense has its own set of conjugation rules, so it's essential to learn these rules to be able to correctly form verb tenses in French. Additionally, there are compound tenses that involve auxiliary verbs and past participles, such as the passé composé, plus-que-parfait, and others.
